Library News Term 1, 2012



While visiting the library each week, children will have the opportunity to get to know a variety of Australian and international authors and illustrators. As well, children will learn how to:

become active participants in the library by developing an understanding of the sections of the library;

search for and locate materials,

maintain and share its resources.


In addition to the allocated class sessions, the library will be open at lunchtimes on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1.00 pm until 1.25pm. Children can browse, borrow and return books at these times.


Premier’s Reading Challenge


Again this year our students will have the opportunity to participate in the Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge. The program will run until the 31st August.


Children in the junior classes will participate in the program as part of their regular library program

Students in years 3-6 will be provided with reading record sheets and information on how to enter books on the Challenge website..


Later in the year, closer to Book Week, students will learn about texts shortlisted for the Children’s Book Council, Book of the Year Awards. Selected stories will be presented as dramatic performances and a Book Fair will be held.
